Prof (Dr) R Chandrashekhar

Prof. (Dr) Chandrashekhar, the first Ph.D holder in the field of “Medical Architecture” in India, former Chief Architect, Ministry of Health &FW, Govt.of India, , is a "Trailblazer" in hospital planning and designing. With over 49 years of experience, he has played a pivotal role in establishing numerous medical colleges and hospitals, providing expert guidance in healthcare planning. His contributions extend to project management and advisory roles for various state governments, as well as serving on the technical committee for the creation of six AIIMS. Currently, he holds prestigious positions such as Chairman of the Indian Green Building Council, Heathcare Rating(IGBC), Consultant to the World Bank, Consultant to Indo UK Institute of Health (IUIH), Vice President RFHHA; Vice President IBIMA, while also being a Visiting Professor at London South Bank University, UK. Dr. Chandrashekhar has received numerous accolades for his exceptional contributions to the field. He was recognized as the “Top Healthcare Architect” by Medgate Today at the India Healthcare Awards in 2013; “First Humanitarian Award” from the Centre for Health System & Design at Texas A&M University in 2013 for his significant impact on healthcare architecture in India; “Varahamihir The Great Planner Award” by the Academy of Hospital Administration in 2022 and “Excellence Award” for his outstanding contributions to healthcare planning and design at Devcon, in 2024. He is a co-author of the books "Modern Trends in Planning & Designing Hospitals: Principles & Practices" and "Planning & Designing of Specialty Healthcare Facilities."
